External Wall insulation lowers your heating bills

External Wall insulation (also called Solid Wall insulation) can save around 35% of heat1 from being lost through uninsulated walls, bringing down energy bills while warming up your home.

How does External Wall insulation work?

External Wall insulation stops heat from escaping through ‘solid’ brick walls, which aren’t good at keeping in the warmth. You can usually tell a property was built with solid walls by looking at its outside brickwork pattern. Another guide is the date it was built: if it’s pre-1920s it’s probably of solid wall construction. You can find out more at a no-obligation home assessment.

If your home is suitable for External Wall insulation we fix robust insulation panels to the external brick walls to help keep in the heat. We finish the installation with an attractive weather-proof render, brick slips or dash, so you can refresh the look of your property at the same time. Browse our huge range of render colours, brick slips and finishes.

Improves your home inside and out

Installing External Wall insulation makes a big difference to your home’s comfort, and could save you hundreds of pounds a year on bills.

The smart new finish on the external walls also transforms the property – it looks fresh and new on the outside, as well as feeling warmer and more welcoming on the inside. Year round benefits of insulation include keeping rooms pleasantly cooler during hot summer months, and making life noticeably more peaceful indoors.

Ask us for a professional survey

We carry out an expert survey before we recommend External Wall insulation. We check the property’s external walls are in good condition, and note any features such as windows, lights, pipework or hanging baskets, as these have to be factored in before installation. We look at solutions needed, such as ‘cold bridging’ (this is where we make sure insulation stays effective at gaps around window sills or joist ends). And we check access to the property, to ensure work can be completed correctly and safely.

We can then put together a professional plan that will give you the best results.

What does it cost?

Following your survey, we’ll give you a clear, fixed quote for the recommended work, along with an estimated timescale for the installation.

The cost of installing External Wall insulation will vary for each property, depending on its size and type, but you’ll benefit from big savings on your energy bills year after year.

We may offer a discount when we install other energy efficiency improvements (such as replacement double-glazed doors or windows) alongside External Wall insulation.

Funding for insulation

Certain households may qualify for funding for insulation and other energy saving improvements*. Find out more about the government-backed Great British Insulation Scheme and ask us for more details.

Installing External Wall insulation

  • If you decide to go ahead following your survey, we’ll book a date for the installation and schedule the work.
  • All work takes place outside the property. Our experienced installers will be professional and polite and work cleanly and efficiently, keeping disruption to your homelife to a minimum.
  • The team will put up scaffolding to work safely, and will need clear access all around the property. They will carefully remove any external wall features such as lights, satellite dishes etc. Find out more about What to Expect at your Installation.
  • Once the walls are prepared, insulation panels are fixed to the brickwork. These are then sealed and weather-proofed and finished with your choice of render colour or finish.
  • Installation can take 1–2 weeks, but time scales will vary depending on the size of the property, ease of access and features such as number of windows, doors and drainpipes.
  • Very wet or very cold conditions can delay installations. This is for safety and to ensure the quality of workmanship and finish. We will always keep you informed if weather holds up work.
  • We follow the highest standards of workmanship. Our technicians are professionally accredited and the products and systems we use are BBA-approved.
